To the editor:
I would like to thank the following two groups for such a great weekend of events here in Beaverton — the Beaverton fair board and the Terry Fox Run organizers and volunteers.
The Beaverton Fall Fair (September 13-14) was a huge success, in my opinion, and, judging by the comments from the many people I have spoken to who attended the fair. Many enjoyed the fresh infusion of midway rides, some of which were enjoyed by the little ones attending with family and the rides for the older children, teens and adults. The carnival games were also a nice feature for the midway.
There were many great events starting on Friday with the parade and school competitions in the fairgrounds; the entertainment of the motocross event this year, which certainly was a welcome addition, and the ever-popular demolition derby on Saturday evening. I also watched some of the horse competitions happening in the fairgrounds, which drew large crowds at the various times of these events.
The arena also had interesting events including the cattle and calf judging, vendors and informational tables. There were so many events and activities to see and enjoy, I can simply mention a few of the others which I enjoyed on my visits to the fair. The senior fair entries were interesting to check out and there were so many more participants with eye-catching projects in the Junior Fair entries thanks to the committee reorganizing the categories and items for the Fair.
Great work done by the Beaverton Fair Board group of organizers, committee members and the many volunteers who spent countless hours helping to make this Fall Fair such a great success!
Thanks also go to Crystal Doucette, her family and friends who volunteered to run a highly successful Terry Fox Run at the Beaverton location on Sunday, Sept 15.
She has been organizing and running this event for a number of years and doing such a great job at providing this event for the community and surrounding areas. My standard poodle, Abby, and I enjoyed the part of the route which we walked and appreciated the snacks and water available as did other participants.
Also provided were mementos of this year’s event including pins, ribbons, Terry Fox T-shirts, certificates and stickers to remind us all of this very important yearly event. There was a very good turn-out of participants (runners, joggers, cyclists, walkers) who chose one of the distances to complete and the pledge and donation money generated from this event all goes to a worthy cause in the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research and other important areas of this disease. Congratulations Crystal!
You, as the organizer, your family and friends who volunteer for this event have certainly made a difference.
