The alleged driver of a stolen car was locked inside the vehicle and arrested following a brief pursuit in Oshawa Tuesday (Sept. 10).
According to the DRPS, officers responded to a report of a stolen in the area of Cedar Street and Wentworth Street West around 4 p.m.
“The stolen Chevrolet Malibu rental vehicle was reported stolen from Toronto and On-Star was able to give officers a location for the vehicle. Officers located the vehicle in a lot and noticed that it had substantial damage to it,” reads a media release from police.
“Officers attempted to stop the driver and he drove off at a high rate of speed. Officers pursued the vehicle for a short distance but terminated the pursuit due to safety concerns.”
Police say that On-Star was able to de-activate the vehicle and the suspect was locked inside on Lakeview Park Avenue and he was arrested without incident.
Daniel Etherden, 37, of King Street in Hamilton has been charged with dangerous operation, fail to stop for police, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, breach of probation, two counts of drive while under suspension and operate a conveyance while prohibited.
He was held for a bail hearing.
