Motorist charged after allegedly attempting to evade police in Kawartha Lakes

A Toronto-area driver was arrested Saturday (Sept. 7) after allegedly attempting to evade police in Kawartha Lakes.

According to police, an officer was patrolling Highway 35 near River Road when a vehicle was observed travelling at a high rate of speed.

“As the officer conducted a U-turn to facilitate the stopping of the vehicle, the vehicle entered a residential driveway.  When the officer approached the vehicle, the driver was no longer present,” reads a media release from police.

The driver was located a short distance away, police say.

Chukwuma Nwanunobi, 47, has been charged with flight from peace officer in addition to the initial speeding offense.

He is slated to appear in court on Oct. 17.
