Driver charged after cops clock vehicle travelling 60 km/h over the speed limit

A motorist from Whitby is facing charges after police allegedly clocked him driving more than 60 km/h over the speed limit on Kawartha Lakes 48.

According to the OPP, an officer was on patrol Saturday (Aug. 31) when he spotted a vehicle travelling at 143 km/h in a 80-km/h zone.

James Chatterpaul, 52, was charged with race a motor vehicle – excessive speed, fail to surrender permit for motor vehicle and fail to have insurance card.

He is scheduled to appear in court on Oct. 1.

“The vehicle was towed from the scene and will be impounded for seven days,” reads a media release from police.
