Police recover body of missing boater following accident on Stoney Lake

Police have recovered the body of a missing man after two boats collided on Stoney Lake over the weekend.

The man’s body was located shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday (Aug. 25).

“His name is not being released at this time pending family notifications,” reads a media release from police.

According to the OPP, emergency crews were called to assist in a collision between two boats – with three people on board each vessel – shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Saturday.

“Witnesses located and transported five of the six of the occupants of the vessels to shore. Investigators were directed to the scene of the crash just off Northey’s Bay Road (Bedwell Drive) in Young’s Bay on Stoney Lake,” reads a media release from police.

“Officers utilized marine units and a helicopter from the OPP aviation services however, efforts to locate a 31-year-old man from Mississauga were unsuccessful. Another 31-year-old male was pronounced dead at the scene.”

That victim has been identified as Kristian Brudek, 31, of Burlington.

Police continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the accident.
