‘Suspicious’ fire causes $100,000 worth of damage to Scugog home

Police are investigating a house fire in Scugog Wednesday (Aug. 21) evening.

Firefighters from both Scugog and Uxbridge responded to the fire at a home on Regional Road 21 (Goodwood Road) shortly after 6:30 p.m.

Upon their arrival, Scugog Fire Chief Mark Berney said that the fire had engulfed the back of the building and was beginning to spread throughout.

A total of 25 firefighters responded to the call, with 10 trucks.

“Fire Suppression efforts were supported by Durham Regional Police, Durham Paramedics and the Durham Region Works Department,” Chief Berney said.

“The fire was extinguished and the last truck cleared at 1:30 a.m.”

He noted that the fire caused roughly $100,000 worth of damage and is being treated as suspicious.
