Kawartha Lakes police charge five motorists with distracted driving

Five motorists were charged with distracted driving by the Kawartha Lakes Police Service over the weekend.

The organization launched an enforcement campaign on Aug. 1 that will run through the month.

“Distracted driving is one of the leading causes of collisions in Ontario and the goal of this traffic initiative is to make roads safer for everyone in the City of Kawartha Lakes,” reads a media release from police.

“Drivers who are caught driving while distracted by a handheld device can face a fine of up to $1000, three demerit points and a three-day suspension of their driver’s license.”
