Police searching for missing man from East Gwillimbury

Police are asking for the public’s help finding a 53-year-old man missing from the Town of East Gwillimbury.

According to York Regional Police, Robert John Weiss was last in contact with his family on the phone on July 8. On July 15, a family member attempted to contact him but could not reach him, which police say is very out of character for him.

Investigators have located video surveillance showing Weiss going northbound through the Lowes Plaza at Yonge Street and Green Lane at approximately 3:30 p.m. on July 12.

Police say he is known to frequent the area of the Newmarket Inn and the plazas at Yonge Street and Green Lane.

Weiss is described as a white male, standing 6 feet tall, weighing 185 lbs with short brown and grey hair and brown eyes. He has a scar on his chin, commonly carries a backpack and has an unsteady walk.

Police and his family are growing increasingly concerned for Weiss’ well-being. A command post has been set up at Yonge Street and Green Lane and officers will be conducting a search in that area. Investigators are also asking any business owners or anyone residing in that area to check their properties.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the York Regional Police #1 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7141 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips or leave an anonymous tip online at http://www.1800222tips.com.
