Two mothers and 12-year-old girl facing charges after alleged theft at store

Two women are facing charges after they allegedly stole merchandise from a store while shopping with three of their children, including a 12-year-old girl that was also arrested.

According to police, officers were called to the Superstore on Liverpool Road in Pickering for a theft in progress around 6:30 p.m. Monday (July 8).

“Two women and three children – between the ages of 12 and eight years of age – were seen leaving the store with a cart full of items without making an attempt to pay. The stolen property was valued around $1,200,” reads a media release from police.

“Officers located the suspects in the parking lot of the store. Upon seeing the cruiser, the suspects, including one youth, fled on foot. Officers were able to catch up to the suspects and place them under arrest.”

A 30-year-old, a 42-year-old and a 12-year-old, all from Toronto, have each been charged with theft under $5,000 and possession of stolen properly under $5,000. They were released on a promise to appear.

The names of the two adults have not been released by police to protect the identities of the youth involved.
