Third suspect charged in connection to murder of Sunderland man

The third – and final – suspect wanted in connection to the murder of a Sunderland man back in March was arrested on Wednesday (July 10).

According to police, 19-year-old Vejay Alexander has been charged with second degree murder in connection to the shooting death of 22-year-old Alex Perlmutter. He is scheduled to appear in Newmarket court on July 19.

Shortly after 3 p.m. on March 27, York Regional Police responded to the area of Ninth Line and Aurora Road for a report that a man had been shot. When officers arrived, they located the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators determined that the shooting occurred in a parking lot at Queensville Side Road and Highway 48. The victim was driven to the parking lot on Ninth Line by a witness.

The first suspect in the case was arrested by police on May 1.

Levi Alexander, 23, of Toronto has been charged with second degree murder.

He is scheduled to appear in court on July 19.

On July 3, investigators attended an address in Toronto and arrested a second suspect, Lamar Cyrus. He has been charged with second degree murder, possession of weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorised possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm in a vehicle and unauthorized possession of a firearm with ammunition.

He is slated to appear in Newmarket court on July 18.
