Police investigating Canada Day altercation in Orillia

The Orillia OPP are investigating an incident that occurred in the parking lot of a Front Street business in Orillia on Canada Day (July 1).

According to police, an altercation ensued between a lone male and a group of individuals on bicycles around 8:20 p.m.

“After the original altercation, the lone male sustained what police believe to be an accidental injury and was transported to Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital by Simcoe Paramedic Services, then transferred to Sunnybrook Hospital in Toronto,” reads a media release.

The man – a 32-year-old from Orillia – has since succumbed to his injuries.

“Members of the Orillia Major Crime Unit of the OPP continue to investigate the incident and believe that several people witnessed the event,” the media release reads.
