The founder and driving force behind the Cannington Haunted Trail for more than a decade has been recognized as the village’s Citizen of the Year.
Angela Canavan received the award from the Lion’s Club during the Canada Day celebrations in MacLeod Park on Monday (July 1).
In his address, Lions member Walter Schummer noted that the event has “grown and flourished” under Canavan’s guidance and has become a tourism draw for the township.
It has also served to introduce countless local youth to volunteering.
Canavan said she was “truly honoured” to accept the recognition.
“I just love Cannington. It’s such a fabulous community,” she said.
A $100 donation to Camp Kirk will be made in Canavan’s honour.
In an interview following the presentation, she thanked those that have lent their time and talents to the Cannington Haunted Trail over the years.
“I’d especially like to thank Cyndi Wolsey for serving as co-chair for the past two years,” she said.
After expanding to cover two weekends in 2018, the event is set to run on Oct. 18 and 19 as well as Oct. 25 and 26 this year.
