Home daycare operator charged in relation to alleged sexual assault of a child

The operator of a home daycare in Whitby is facing a pair of charges as part of an ongoing investigation into the alleged sexual assault of a four-year-old child.

The woman – who was running a home daycare called ‘Little Tadpoles’ on Catkins Crescent at the time of the allegations – was charged by police Wednesday (June 26).

Crystal Benson, 36, has been charged with person in charge not providing necessaries of life and cause bodily harm by criminal negligence.

She was released on a promise to appear.

Two people have been charged in relation to the investigation.

Earlier this month, 39-year-old Christopher Benson was charged with indecent exposure; invitation to sexual touching; sexual assault and making sexually explicit material available – under 14.

He was held for a bail hearing.

“It’s alleged that the suspect victimized the child while she attended the daycare center on Catkins Crescent in Whitby between February 2018 and June 2018. The accused lived at the residence at the time,” reads a media release from police.
