Brock has backed Durham Region’s bid to host the 2022 Ontario Summer Games.
Earlier this month, members of township council passed a motion supporting the Region’s efforts to host the event and Brock will be listed as the tentative location for the triathlon.
“If, during site visits and further exploration, it is determined that Scugog may be a better fit for Triathlon, we may move Archery to the Township of Brock,” reads a response from Lori Talling, sport tourism co-ordinator for the Region of Durham.
“We are making our best efforts to include all municipalities in this event. Initial Ministry (of Tourism, Culture and Sport) site visits will take place in July and we will find out in August if we are selected as the host community.”
The Ontario Summer Games features competition in more than 20 sports and is expected to draw more than 3,000 spectators and participants, which could generate an economic impact of between $4 to $6 million.
