Canada Protection Plan
Cannington Foodland likely to reopen in September

It could be another three months before Foodland in Cannington reopens.

In an interview over the weekend, franchise owner Rod Skinner said that efforts to rebuild the interior of the store should get underway towards the end of the month.

“It looks like we’re two weeks away from starting the rebuild as the crew is finishing up at another site,” he said.

“We can’t wait to get this started.”

The work should take roughly eight to 10 weeks to complete.

“I would like to thank all of our customers for their patience,” Skinner added.

“I would also like to tell them that they are missed. No matter what they may read on social media, we will be back. And when the doors reopen, it will have been worth the wait.”

The business has been closed since a fire broke out around 6 a.m. on Dec. 24 after a freezer malfunctioned. While it was quickly extinguished, none of the stock – worth an estimated $250,000 – could be salvaged and it caused a significant amount of smoke damage to the interior of the store.
