GO Transit will be reducing its bus service in Brock Township this month as part of a broader cost-cutting effort.
As of June 29, the 81 Route that runs through the township will essentially be trimmed in half with only two daily stops at each location in Beaverton, Cannington and Sunderland instead of four.
The local change is one of two route reductions that are planned, while three other routes are being cancelled outright.
“We’re discontinuing, reducing and adjusting service on some low-performing routes to find operational savings. We value all of our customers, and we don’t make these decisions lightly,” said Fannie Sunshine, a media relations and issues specialist with Metrolinx.
“In these cases, there is not enough demand to justify running the services. We are always monitoring our services to ensure we are making the best use of our resources.”
The adjustments could save GO Transit as much as $3.7 million.
According to the company, the 81 Route has an average ridership of just 13 people.
