Fatal accident closes Highway 12 in Ramara Township

One person is dead and another has been transported to a Toronto area hospital with life-threatening injuries following an accident on Highway 12 in Ramara Township Saturday (May 25) afternoon.

The accident occurred around 1:45 p.m. near Plum Point Road in Ramara Township.

“Police arrived on the scene where Ramara Fire Department and County of Simcoe Paramedic Services (CSPS) were tending to injured persons. CSPS transported two people to an Orillia area hospital for treatment,” reads a media release from police.

“The male driver was pronounced deceased at the hospital. The female passenger was then transported to a Toronto area hospital with life threatening injuries.”

The highway remains closed for the police investigation.

“Preliminary investigation suggests that the vehicle driven by the deceased turned left onto Highway 12 from Plum Point Road and was struck by a vehicle travelling southbound,” the media release reads.
