A 31-year-old woman from Nestleton was killed and two others injured following a head-on collision Thursday (May 9) in Clarington.
According to police, the accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. when witnesses reported that a GMC Sierra that was travelling south on Bowmanville Avenue, just north of Taunton Road, veered into the northbound lane and struck a Jeep Cherokee.
The driver of the Jeep – who has not been identified – was found without vital signs, while the passenger – a 35 year-old male from Scugog suffered serious injuries.
“He was transported to a Toronto-area trauma hospital where he remains in stable condition. There were two dogs in the vehicle, one of which had to be euthanized due to its injuries. Another dog was taken to an animal hospital with serious injuries,” reads a media release from police.
The driver of the GMC Sierra, a 60-year-old man from Scugog, sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a trauma unit in Toronto where he remains in stable condition.
A section of the road was closed for several hours for the police investigation.
