Whitby man seriously injured after early morning collision

A 42-year-old man suffered serious injuries after being involved in a collision Wednesday morning (May 1) in Whitby.

Shortly after 4 a.m., police were called to a serious motor vehicle collision involving two vehicles at the intersection of Rossland Road West and Garden Street in Whitby.

Police say a black Honda Civic was travelling north on Garden Street when the vehicle came into contact in the intersection with a blue Hyundai station wagon which was travelling west on Rossland Road East.

Emergency responders attended the scene within minutes and provided medical assistance to both drivers. There were no passengers in the vehicles.

According to police, the 42-year-old driver of the Honda was transported to a Toronto-area trauma hospital with serious injuries. At this time he remains in stable condition. The 71-year-old driver of the Hyundai station wagon was transported to a local hospital for precautionary measures with minor injuries.

Members of the DRPS – Collision Investigation Unit, attended the scene to investigate. The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
