A 53-year-old Brechin man has been arrested after allegedly sexually assaulting a woman he met online.

According to police, the suspect had met the female victim several weeks ago on a Facebook dating page.

“Both parties communicated for weeks through text message and had arranged a dinner date at her residence in Scugog,” reads a media release.

“On Wednesday, April 3, 2019, the suspect attended the victims residence very late in the night and when he was invited in, he sexually assaulted her.”

Police say the victim was not physically injured and called police immediately.

Stephen Redpath of Campbell Beach Road in Brechin is charged with sexual assault. He was held for a bail hearing.

“Investigators are releasing his online profile photo to ensure there are no other victims. The suspect also uses the online alias of Steven Redpath,” the media release reads.
