The Brock Community Health Centre is helping local teens look their best for prom by arranging transportation to the Gowns for Girls event in Oshawa this month.
Now in its sixth year, the initiative is organized by the Durham Regional Police Service and provides young girls with dresses and accessories for prom.
“Many do not have the economic resources to attend as some dresses can cost upwards of $800. Additional expenses are then required for shoes, hair services and accessories,” reads a media release.
Gowns for Girls takes place from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 16 and Wednesday April 17 at Bobby Orr Public School.
Brock Township students looking for transportation are asked to call the Brock Community Health Centre at 705-432-3322.
As well, the second annual Suits for Youths campaign aims outfit young people with suits, ties and other accessories they can use for both prom and for job interviews when school is finished.
Suits for Youth is taking place from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, April 17 and Thursday, April 18 at the Oshawa Centre.
