Sunderland man identified as the victim in murder case

A man from Sunderland has been identified as the victim of a shooting on Wednesday (March 27) in East Gwillimbury.

York Regional Police responded to the area of Ninth Line and Aurora Road in Whitchurch-Stouffville for a report that a man had been shot. When police arrived, they found the victim who was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim has been identified as Alex Perlmutter, 22, of Sunderland.

Police say the shooting occurred in a parking lot at Queensville Side Road and Highway 48. The victim was reportedly driven to the parking lot on Ninth Line by a witness.

Investigators believe that there were three male suspects involved who were driving a black SUV.

Descriptions of the suspects are listed below.

Suspect 1:

  •  Male, Black
  • Cornrows in hair
  • Wearing a camo sweater and track pants
  • Armed with a firearm

Suspect 2:

  • Male, Black
  • Wearing blue shoes
  • Shorter than suspect 1 and 3

  • Male, Black
  • Wearing a large chain
  • Same height as Suspect 1

“Police would like to thank the community for their support and assistance in this investigation. According to a release, police have been receiving many calls and tips from members of the public and are following up on those leads,” reads a media release from police.

“Anyone who may have seen or heard anything in the area is asked to contact police. Investigators are also appealing to any nearby businesses or residences that may have video surveillance, or any drivers who may have dashcam footage to please come forward.”
