Officers in Kawartha Lakes allegedly assaulted during arrest

Two police officers in Kawartha Lakes suffered minor injuries after allegedly being assaulted during an arrest this morning.

According to police, the officers attended a home in the Lindsay area around 7:30 a.m. to arrest a man who was wanted for assaulting and sexually assaulting his female acquaintance.

“As the officers informed the man that he was going to be arrested, he attempted to flee. A struggle ensued, during which the man kicked one officer and bit the second,” reads a media release from police.

“Despite his attempts to escape, the man was taken into custody.”

The man, whose name has not been released to protect the identity of the initial victim, has been charged one count of sexual assault, one count of failing to comply with the conditions of his recognizance, three counts of assault and two counts of assaulting a peace officer.

He’s being held in custody prior to a bail hearing later today.
