Township spending nearly $93,000 to spruce up downtown areas

Brock Township will be spending nearly $93,000 to beautify the downtown areas of Beaverton, Cannington and Sunderland.

The municipality received roughly $48,000 in funding through the Ontario Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Rural Affairs, allocating an additional $45,000 to the efforts during budget deliberations.

The money will be used to purchase new directional signage to local landmarks ($17,245), updated holiday lighting ($15,900), enhanced hanging basket planters ($14,000), decorative garbage cans ($11,500), decorative recycling bins ($11,500), parking signs ($3,000), six bicycle racks ($1,500) and one bicycle repair station ($2,000).

Council made a couple of changes to the staff recommendation, trimming the number of bike racks and repair stations suggested and investing roughly $5,500 for sidewalk painting.
