Body found on shores of Lake Scugog believed to be that of missing fisherman

A body that has washed up on the shoreline of Lake Scugog is believed to be that of a missing man from Toronto.

A fisherman called 911 after finding the body near Centre Road and Crozier Lane on Scugog Island shortly after 6 p.m. on Thursday (March 14).

“Officers attended and it’s believed to be missing person Phong Vu. A coroner attended and requested a post-mortem to be conducted to determine cause of death and to confirm the identity,” reads a media release from the DRPS.

Vu was reported missing on Oct. 15 after police responded to a boater in distress call.

According to witnesses, the 31-year-old was out alone in his canoe at the time when it capsized. Witnesses found the empty canoe and contacted police
