Port Perry man thrown from ATV, critically injured

A 49-year-old man from Port Perry was critically injured after police say he lost control of his all-terrain vehicle early Saturday morning (March 9).

Shortly before 1:30 a.m. Saturday, Durham Regional Police responded to the call of a serious motor vehicle collision involving an ATV in the area of Chandler Drive and The Mississauga’s Trail in Scugog Township. Police say the man operating the ATV at the time appeared to have lost control before being thrown from the vehicle. He was not wearing a helmet, according to police.

First responders attended the scene and provided medical assistance to the man. He was taken to a local hospital then air-lifted to a Toronto-area trauma hospital with life-threatening injuries. Police say the man remains in stable but critical condition.

The area of the roadway was closed for several hours while police investigated.
