Cost of Brock Township council nearly topped $215,000 last year

The tab for township council nearly topped $215,000 in 2018.

A report from Treasurer Laura Barta that is on the agenda for Monday’s (March 4) council meeting outlines the salaries, benefits and expenses paid out to local politicians.

As they served for 11 months of the year, the bulk of the $214,016 went to members of the previous term of council.

Former mayor John Grant received a gross pay of $34,390 (which includes an expense allowance of $3,769 and an RRSP contribution of $1,420). He also received $2,642 to attend conferences and educational opportunities, as well as $34 in other expenses.

Regional Councillor Ted Smith – who was re-elected to the position in November – collected a gross pay of $30,309 ($2,500 expense allowance, $1,049 RRSP, $5,856 in optional benefits) as well as $907 for conferences and educational opportunities and $68 in other expenses.

Former Ward 1 councillor Gord Lodwick received a gross pay of $33,205 ($2,356 expense allowance, $884 RRSP and $5,357 in optional benefits). That figure also includes $6,430 in severance. Lodwick also received $112 for mileage, as well as $1,195 for conferences and educational opportunities.

Former Ward 2 councillor Cyndi Schaffer collected a gross pay $23,464 ($2,356 expense allowance, $884 RRSP, $2,046 in optional benefits).

Former Ward 3 councillor Mike Parliament received a gross pay of $24,775 ($2,356 expense allowance, $884 RRSP, $5,357 in optional benefits).

Former Ward 4 councillor Therese Miller received a gross pay of $21,418 ($2,356 expense allowance, $884 RRSP).

Ward 5 Councillor Lynn Campbell – who was also re-elected – collected a gross pay $28,823 ($2,500 expense allowance, $979 RRSP and $5,856 in optional benefits.

Current Mayor Debbie Bath-Hadden received a gross pay $2,444 ($231 expense allowance, $149 RRSP) after being sworn-in to office in December, while the remaining four ward councillors (Mike Jubb in Ward 1, Claire Doble in Ward 2, Walter Schummer in Ward 3 and Cria Pettingill) all collected identical amounts.

They collected $2,048 in gross pay ($144 expense allowance, $95 RRSP and $500 in optional benefits).
