Police looking for ‘persons of interest’ following incident involving a child at the ROC

Investigators from the YRPS are looking to speak with two persons of interest following an interaction with a youth at the ROC in Georgina over the weekend.

Police were called to the recreational facility around 8:15 p.m. Saturday (Feb. 23) for a report of suspicious people.

“When officers arrived, they spoke with an 11-year-old boy who advised that he had been snowboarding and while on the hill, at approximately 7:15 p.m., was approached by a woman, who offered to pay him $20 to teach her how to snowboard,” reads a media release.

“At approximately 8 p.m., the guardian of the boy saw him speaking with the unknown woman and confronted her. During the confrontation, the unknown woman was joined by an unknown male and claimed that she wanted to pay the boy for teaching her how to snowboard.”

While investigators do not believe that a criminal offence occurred, they would like to speak with those involved to determine what took place.

The woman is described as white, approximately five feet in height with long blonde hair. She was wearing pink snow pants, black jacket and a black helmet and was using a snowboard that was black and red with an image of a woman on it.

The male is described as Asian, approximately 5’9” in height with a medium build. He was wearing black clothing.

Parents and guardians should take some time to speak with their children about the following safety tips:

– Teach your children to avoid talking to strangers;

– Children should be taught not to accept candy, presents or money from strangers;

– Listen when your child tells you that they don’t want to be with someone and find out why; and,

– Be alert to an adult or teenager paying too much attention to your child

Anyone with information is asked to call the YRPS at 1-866-876-5423, ext. 7341 or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-tips and
