Council develops shortlist of candidates to serve as interim CAO

Members of Brock council have developed a shortlist of three candidates to serve as interim Township CAO.

Current CAO/Clerk Thom Gettinby provided notice of his impending retirement back in January and the position will be split after his final day with the municipality on April 5 with Deputy Clerk Becky Jamieson being promoted to clerk.

Council passed a pair of motions following an in-camera session that stretched for nearly a full hour on Tuesday (Feb. 19) night, passing a pair of motions related to filling the CAO position on a temporary basis.

The first grants Mayor Debbie Bath-Hadden the authority to negotiate the terms and conditions of the job with candidates, while the second increased the salary line in the CAO/Clerk’s department by $20,000. That figure will be funded through the rate stabilization fund reserve.

“Not the salary (for the position), the salary line,” Mayor Bath-Hadden clarified.

In an interview following the meeting, Mayor Bath-Hadden said that three candidates are being considered for the interim position and that a decision could be made at some point next week.

“We’re getting closer,” she said.

“Thom’s last day with the Township is April 5 and we’re hoping to have someone hired by then, if not a couple of days earlier so there can be some job-shadowing.”

Gettinby has served roughly two decades with the municipality in a variety of roles. He was appointed CAO/Clerk in the spring of 2010.
