Pending council approval, seven local groups will be splitting $8,300 that was raised through Brock Township’s annual charity golf tournament.
Last summer’s golf tournament, held in June at Cedarhurst Golf Club in Beaverton raised more than $15,000.
The Township received eight applications for funding, though one was denied as it did not meet the approval criteria.
This year’s recipients are:
Sunderland Public School — $2,000 for upgrades to its playground surface;
Beaverton Curling Club — $1,650 for its ‘Learn to Curl’ youth program;
Brock Minor Hockey — $1,500 for foam rink dividers;
Sunderland Stingerz — $1,200 for team jerseys;
Beaverton Town Hall Players — $1,000 for a junior theatre gala performance;
Beaverton Minor Baseball — $600 for dugout and diamond signs; and,
Sunderland Skating Club — $350 for a storage unit for supplies.
Outside of these one-time grants, council also passed a motion during budget deliberations to provide a $15,000 grant over five years to support the reconstruction of Grandview Children’s Centre in Oshawa with proceeds from the tournament.
