YRPS arrest 21 more motorists for impaired driving

Twenty-one more motorists have been charged with impaired driving by the YRPS.

The charges were laid between Jan. 28 and Feb 4. In total, more than 140 impaired driving charges have been laid against upwards of 90 people in the first five weeks of 2019.

“We are reminding drivers that York Regional Police conducts RIDE spot checks year-round and that our officers are always watching for suspected impaired drivers. We also continue to encourage citizens to call 911 if you spot a suspected impaired driver,” reads a media release from police.

The YRPS shared video footage of one of the arrests, which came after officers were called to a restaurant drive-thru in Aurora shortly after 5 p.m. on Sunday (Feb. 3).

“When officers arrived, they found the vehicle pulled up to the window. The vehicle was running and the driver was asleep. After knocking repeatedly on the window to awake the driver, officers smashed the passenger window to gain access to the car. Officers woke the driver, who smelled of alcohol. He was placed under arrest and transported to #1 District for a breath test, where he blew more than four times the legal limit,” reads a media release.
