School board issues statement after Lindsay teacher charged with assault

The Trillium Lakelands District School Board has issued a statement after a female teacher at King Albert Public School in Lindsay was charged with assault.

“The safety and well-being of all our students is always our first priority,” it reads.

“No details will be shared in order to protect privacy of both the accused and the student. Student safety has been addressed by relocating the teacher in question and ensuring the person is not in a position of trust or authority.”

While few details have been released, the Kawartha Lakes Police Service launched an investigation on Friday (Jan. 25) after receiving a report about an incident involving a student that had occurred at the school the previous day.

“As a result, a female teacher employed at the school has been charged with one count of assault,” reads a media release.

“The victim, who is a student of the school, did not suffer physical injuries as a result of the assault and the City of Kawartha Lakes Police Service believe this was an isolated incident.”

The accused will appear in Lindsay court on March 7.

“The name of the accused is not being released in order to protect the identity of the victim,” police said.
