Eight-year-old boy and his mother seriously injured after head-on crash in Port Perry

An eight-year-old child and his mother were seriously injured after being involved in a head-on motor vehicle collision in Port Perry on Sunday (Jan. 20).

Officers were called to two-vehicle crash on Simcoe Street, near River Street, around 9:20 p.m.

Police say the child and his 43-year-old mother were travelling in a red Honda southbound on Simcoe Street when it collided with a white Mercedes which was travelling north.

The eight-year-old boy was airlifted to a Toronto-area hospital and his mother was taken by ambulance to a trauma center in Toronto. The driver of the Mercedes was taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The road closed for several hours while evidence was collected.
