The dream season continues for the U19 Sunderland Stingerz after the team rolled to the championship of a weekend tournament in Burlington.
Sunderland opened the tournament with dominant wins over Newmarket and Paris (by scores of 6-1 and 5-1, respectively) before closing out round-robin play with a 3-0 against West Ottawa to earn a bye into the finals.
The Stingerz looked every bit as impressive, capturing gold with a 5-1 win over London.
The team has compiled a 20-0-2 record so far this year.
“We are undefeated so far this season and this is our third gold medal. We also won in London and Mississauga,” said Coach Derek Schofield.
“The girls are a hard-working group and very coachable. They have a desire to improve with every practice and game. Above all, they have become a very close-knit group, on and off the ice.”
