There’s a new online resource for North Durham residents looking to launch their own business or brush up on their professional skills.
The EDGE (Entrepreneurship Development Generating Employment) program offered by the Brock Youth Centre will be moving to the world-wide web in 2019 and is open to those over the age of 18 for free.
“EDGE is designed to help young adults create or enhance their small business,” said Vanessa Koot, manager of client recruitment for the Brock Youth Centre.
“Becoming virtual will hopefully meet the needs of interested participants who wish to be involved but are restricted due to travel, work or other commitments… We are excited to further our programming to offer more accessibility for people who wish to explore entrepreneurship in North Durham.”
After participants register, staff will co-ordinate time slots for small group meetings on ZOOM, a free online platform.
“We will deliver the same hands-on experience, highlighting topics such as creating a business plan, networking, marketing and financing,” Koot said.
If there’s enough interest amongst participants, organizers will also host real-world meet-ups.
Participants will also have the chance to take part in a pitch workshop in March for the chance to win cash prizes.
