The Brock-Norma Green Christmas Wish program helped deliver a happy holiday season to more than 80 families across the township.
Named after its long-time co-ordinator, who passed away in 2012, the program has distributed gifts to families across the township for more than 25 years.
During a visit Friday (Dec. 21), the hall at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Beaverton was packed with donated items, which have been sorted, wrapped and delivered to local families by volunteers.
“Organized chaos,” said program co-ordinator Ron Haines with a laugh.
“We’re down a bit from last year but hoping that’s a sign that fewer families are struggling.”
He said he’s continually floored by the amount of support from the community.
“This community is just something else. We’ve gotten an unbelievable amount of donations.”
Several local schools, community organizations, families and businesses contribute to the program by sponsoring families, while other donations are collected through the toy drives at TD Bank in Beaverton and the Scotiabank branch in Cannington.
