Brock Township will be spending more than $213,000 to repair a bridge on Concession 6 Thorah — more than twice the amount initially budgeted.
At Monday’s (Dec. 10) meeting public works and facilities committee, members of council accepted a bid, which was the lowest of eight received, from Clearwater Structures to complete the work.
Only $105,750 had been set aside for the project in the 2018 budget during the previous term of council.
“I’m trying to figure out how we were 100 per cent off on this,” said Ward 3 Councillor Walter Schummer.
Works Director Nick Colucci explained that a more intensive review of the structure expanded the scope of the work required.
“Typically our consultant’s estimates are fairly accurate,” he told members of council.
“But in this case, the work (required) was larger than we initially anticipated.”
