Township council is going digital this term.
In an effort to conserve literally thousands of pieces of paper annually, each member of council has been given a Microsoft Surface laptop to access an electronic agenda at meetings.
While $7,000 was set aside in the 2018 budget for the purpose of tablets, Township staff opted to go with the “lightweight, mobile” computers after consulting with information technology staff from the Region of Durham.
“Further, over the next three to five years, the Township is planning to upgrade our desktop and laptop computers to meet Durham Region standards to allow for easier integration with the Region and to secure the Region’s pricing,” a memo from Deputy Clerk Becky Jamieson reads.
Purchase of the computers totals $16,200. The unbudgeted amount will be funded through capital reserves.
