A Toronto senior that suffered serious injuries in a crash in Scugog Township earlier this month has succumbed to his injuries.
The DRPS announced the death of the 76-year-old man in a media release Thursday (Nov. 22).
“He is the 22nd fatality victim in the Region of Durham on the roadways patrolled by DRPS. In 2017 there were 17 fatalities for the year,” it reads.
“The name of the deceased is not being released at the request of the family.”
Police were called to the accident on Island Road, north of Demara Road, around 2:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9.
According to police, a blue Hyundai travelling northbound on Island Road lost control and collided with a southbound Kia Sorento.
“A 76-year-old Toronto male driving the Hyundai was transported to Lakeridge Health – Port Perry with serious injuries, and later transported to a Toronto trauma centre by land ambulance. A 61-year-old female passenger from Toronto, in the same vehicle, was extracted from the car and succumbed to her injuries at the scene of the collision,” reads the initial media release.
“A 70-year-old Scugog Township woman, who was driving the Kia, was transported to Lakeridge Health – Port Perry with non-life-threatening injuries.”
