Brock residents rally for the Fill a Purse for a Sister campaign

Brock Township residents certainly did their part in the Fill a Purse for a Sister campaign.

More than 165 purses, backpacks and handbags filled with essential items were collected during an event at Tar’d & Feather’d in Beaverton on Nov. 3.

The area campaign was launched by Angel Freedman, a Markham-based social worker and founder of Angel’s Garage — a charity that distributes used clothing to people in need. In 2017 alone, more than 6,000 purses were donated to nine shelters throughout the GTA.

“The purse drive offers the gift of dignity to women at risk,” Freedman said in a press release.

Organizers are hoping to collect 10,000 purses during this year’s campaign, which runs until Dec. 1.
