Seniors Greetings program returns to spread holiday cheer

Seniors 3Local residents are being asked to help spread a bit of holiday cheer by lending a hand to the Seniors Greetings campaign.

Launched by Cannington resident Jennifer Leece in 2012, the initiative sees volunteers make handmade cards for seniors living in area nursing homes.

More than 800 cards were distributed to residents in Brock, Scugog and Uxbridge last year alone.

Organizers are now hoping that residents can collect some simple art supplies – such as scissors, glue and various forms of paper – to donate.

Several workshop dates will be held in the coming weeks where volunteers can drop in to make some cards. All run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at The Nourish and Develop Foundation in Cannington and they’re slated for Oct. 25, Nov. 15, Nov. 20 and Dec 6.

A special workshop for kids will be held on Dec. 1 from 1 to 4 p.m.
