Collision in Scugog kills three, injures two

Three people are dead and two are seriously injured after a collision on Highway 7/12 at the 4th Line in Scugog this morning (Oct. 6), according to police.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt of the OPP says a northbound SUV crossed into the southbound lane, colliding with a southbound car.

The 58-year-old male driver, from Goodwood, and two female passengers, a 55-year-old woman from Goodwood and a 44-year-old woman from Port Perry, from the car were pronounced dead at the scene. The lone 68-year-old male driver from SUV, from Greenbank, and a 41-year-old female passenger, of Goodwood, from the car were taken to hospital, according to Sgt. Schmidt.

The male is in serious condition and the female is in critical condition, according to police.

No charges have been laid at this time, says Sgt. Schmidt, noting the investigation is ongoing.

“It doesn’t appear that road or weather conditions were a factor in this collision,” he adds.

A previous version of this story mistakenly noted the incident took place Friday night (Oct. 5). According to an update from Sgt. Schmidt, OPP were called to the collision at 1:15 a.m. Saturday.
