The Province is thinking about dropping the speed limit on Highway 12 outside of Sunderland.
According to a letter that will be discussed at Monday’s (June 25) meeting of the protection to persons and property committee, officials at the Ministry of Transportation are mulling over the possibility of expanding the 50-km/h zone past the village.
“The reason for this amendment is to mitigate noise concerns associated with commercial vehicle engine brakes currently occurring within the vicinity of Lorne Street,” a letter from Janice Munro, area traffic manager for the Ministry of Transportation.
“The ministry is recommending the 50-km/h zone start 400 metres south of the existing location. This would locate the beginning of 50-km/h zone 900 meters measured southerly from the intersection with Durham Regional Road 10.”
The letter continues by asking local politicians to share any concerns about the proposal. Check back for more information as it becomes available.
