Residents of Brock are invited to participate in two upcoming walks in support of Dog Guides Canada.
The Beaverton Walk for Dog Guides is set for Sunday (May 27) at the Beaverton Fairgrounds. Registration starts at 9 a.m. with the Walk starting half an hour later. The Walk has been organized by the Beaverton Lioness Club.
Next Sunday (June 3), the Cannington Lions Club is hosting a Walk for Dog Guides starting at Dench Animal Shelter in MacLeod Park. Registration starts at 9:30 a.m. with the Walk beginning at 10 a.m.
“This year, Cannington Lions are partnering with Brock Township’s Dench Animal Shelter to, once again, bring Cannington the opportunity to raise funds to support this worthy program,” reads the Cannington Walk’s web page.
“Pet Valu in Lindsay has donated a $150 gift basket that will go to the highest earning walker, this in addition (to) the great prizes offered by the foundation.”
Walkers have the option of either of two routes in Cannington, the full walk (5K) or the half walk. Volunteers for the event are also most welcome, for organizing and on the day of the event. Students can log community service hours. If you are interested, please email or call Anthony Hunt at email@example.com or 416-619-0358.
Those unable to participate in the walk this year are asked to consider donating to the events by clicking the “Support This Walk – Donate Now!” buttons near the top of each Walk’s web page.
According to Walk for Dog Guides, 100% of the funds raised from the Walks go directly towards the raising, training and placement of Dog Guides for Canadians with medical or physical disabilities. Dog Guides Canada has already provided specially trained Dog Guides to more than 2764 men, women and children, all without any government funding. With help from the community, more people will experience the mobility, safety and independence a devoted Dog Guide brings.
