Woman seriously injured following parking lot altercation in Port Perry
A 20-year-old Port Perry woman received serious injuries after being thrown from a vehicle near a coffee shop parking lot in Port Perry.
Shortly before 6 a.m. on Sunday (May 6), police say a vehicle with multiple occupants was parked near the Food Basics store on Hwy 7A in Port Perry. An argument over noise began between the occupants of the vehicle and two people living nearby. This argument then moved to the parking lot of the Tim Hortons on the north side of the road. Several more people were involved in verbal arguments and at one point, several parties began fighting.
According to police, one of the females involved in the altercation grabbed hold of the door frame of a second vehicle, which began to drive away. This woman was thrown from the vehicle and ended up with multiple injuries. She was taken by ambulance to Uxbridge Cottage Hospital and later transferred by helicopter to a Toronto trauma centre, with multiple serious injuries.
Further investigation resulted in the driver of the second vehicle being charged. Jakob Landry, 18, of Spring Boulevard in Scugog Township, has been charged with dangerous operation and fail to remain.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with new information is asked to contact North Division at 1-888-579-1520 ext. 2675.
