Whitby man dead after collision in Uxbridge

A 60-year-old Whitby man has died after a single vehicle collision on Sunday morning (April 29) in Uxbridge.

At approximately 7:21 a.m. Sunday, Durham Regional Police were called to Reid Road and Uxbridge Concession Road 8 in Uxbridge, regarding a single motor vehicle collision.

A 2005 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck being operated by a 60-year-old male was reportedly travelling east on Reid Road, when he lost control of his vehicle. Police say the vehicle slid sideways and struck a tree on the northeast corner of Reid Road and Concession 8.

The driver, a resident of Whitby, was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is being withheld at the discretion of the family.

Collision investigators from the Traffic Services Branch were called and the roadway was closed for several hours to collect evidence and conduct their investigation. The investigation is ongoing.

This is the eighth fatal collision investigation of Durham Region compared to five from 2017 during the same time frame.
