Flags at the Brock municipal office in Cannington will be lowered Tuesday (April 10) to honour the Humboldt Broncos – the junior hockey team from Saskatchewan that was involved in a horrific bus crash over the weekend.
“The Township of Brock joins Canadians in mourning the tragic loss of life in Saskatchewan over the weekend. Flags at all Township facilities will be flying at half-mast starting tomorrow for the remainder of the week to honour the Humboldt Broncos,” reads a media release from the Township.
Fifteen people died in the crash and another 14 people were injured.
Residents also paid tribute by posting photos of hockey sticks outside of their homes alongside the hashtags #PutYourStickOut and #SticksOutForHumboldt.
According to CTV News, the trend appears to have been started by TSN radio broadcaster Brian Munz, who shared a photo and message from one of his friends.
“Leaving it out on the porch tonight,” the text read.
“The boys might need it…wherever they are.”
