Emergency personnel rushed to Beaverton this afternoon (March 24) after a report that two people crashed through the ice on Lake Simcoe.
While no details have been formally released, Brock Township Fire Chief Rick Harrison confirmed in an interview at 6:15 p.m. that one of the victims has been transported by air ambulance to a Toronto hospital.
“He was pulled out of the water with no vital signs,” Chief Harrison told The Brock Voice in a second interview shortly before 8 p.m.
“I hear they’re still working on him at Sunnybrook.”
The man was part of a larger group that was out on the ice near Thorah Island, Chief Harrison said, noting that circumstances of the incident are still unclear.
“We’re not sure if a second person was pulled out of the water before we got there but everyone else has been accounted for,” Chief Harrison said.
