The kitchen at the Beaverton Legion will undergo some upgrades thanks to a grant from the Government of Canada.
President Joyce Summers has confirmed the Beaverton Legion has been awarded a grant through the New Horizons for Seniors program. The amount of the funding: $23,950.
According to Summers, the funding is designated for the Legion’s kitchen. It will be used for a new dishwasher, light-weight dishes and two dish caddies.
“This will ease storage issues and make it easier for our volunteers for table set-ups at our many functions, including weddings and, of course, our breakfasts,” says Summers.
“(It) is very important for our Legion to work hard for these grants, as they benefit not only our members and volunteers.”
Furthermore, Summers says the Legion’s official designation of disaster relief centre makes it even more important to replace old equipment.
“This will benefit all in our community,” she says.
At Monday’s (Feb. 5) Council meeting, Mayor John Grant recognized the Beaverton Legion’s success in receiving this funding. Councillor Lynn Campbell noted the Sunderland Legion is also applying for New Horizons funding.
