Roundabout or traffic lights, Brock Township Mayor John Grant says either would be an improvement from the current situation at Regional Road 23 and Regional Road 12.
During Monday’s (Feb. 5) Council meeting, Mayor Grant recalled the Jan. 18 public meeting for his peers. He noted the majority of input came from residents of the Georgina area and much of the feedback seemed to favour traffic lights rather than the proposed roundabout.
“Some people are just dead-set against (a roundabout). They think it’s the worst thing to ever happen,” said Mayor Grant.
“You can debate whether a signaled intersection or a roundabout is the best solution but I believe either one is better than the status quo.”
The intersection in question is currently controlled by stop signs from the east and west. As per plans from Durham Region, it will be redesigned to a single-lane roundabout.
“The roundabout will include re-alignment of all four approach legs to the intersection, illumination, concrete curb and gutter median splitter islands and centre island landscaping,” reads a notice from the Region.
Construction is planned for 2018.
